Books, 80’s Movies & a Kettle Crisis – This Week on Slinky By Tuesday

This week on Slinky By Tuesday, the Trinder sisters – Lucy and Katie – dive into two of their absolute favourite hobbies: buying books and reading books. And yes, they’re adamant these are two very distinct hobbies.

Their latest reads range from the best of Jilly Cooper to this month’s Book Club theme – a healthy dose of “filth” and summer romance.

Would You Read the Same Book Twice?

We aso weigh in on a surprisingly divisive bookworm question: Would you ever read a book more than once?

  • Lucy’s rule: She only gives a book a 10/10 rating if she would (or has) reread it – a rare honour.

  • Katie’s approach: She’ll read her favourites until the spine falls apart. Case in point: she’s recently “borrowed” Lucy’s copy of Rivals after hers sadly bit the dust.

80’s Movie Binge – Adventures in Babysitting, 3 Men and a Baby & Mannequin

We also accidentally, fell into an 80’s movie marathon lately. We can now recite the entire script of Adventures in Babysitting (no shame) and are unapologetic fans of 3 Men and a Baby.

The verdict?

We’re fully on board with Hollywood’s trend of rebooting classics – and are officially campaigning for a new "Mannequin".

The Great Kettle Crisis of the Premier Hub

While away for work, Lucy stayed at a Premier Hub – lovely location, great facilities… but no kettle in the room!!!!

Sure, there’s tea and coffee in the lobby, but unless you’ve got the confidence of Lucy’s friend (who happily padded down in his PJs), it’s not ideal. Thankfully, Katie has solved the problem by buying Lucy a collapsible kettle – future work trips are safe as Lucy is a self-confessed nightmare prior to tea.

A white, collapsible electric kettle with a red switch sits on a wooden countertop. A tufted gray couch is in the background.

Naïve Moments & Innocence of Youth

In between all the literary chat and 80’s nostalgia, Katie recalls some of her more innocent slip-ups over the years, including:

  • Accidentally creating a very rude competition on her old radio show for Pink tickets.

  • Inviting people over to “Netflix and chill” – and genuinely meaning it.

Bless!!!

Dog of the Week – The OG

This week’s Dog of the Week was chosen by Katie (Lucy had no say). Tune in to find out who's won!
