"Six" - Twice

Last weekend, I did something I've never done before (before anyone says it, I know that propbably doesn't leave you with many things to guess at) but for the first time ever I saw the same show more than once in a day. I saw "Six" - twice.

In 2023, I saw "Six" twice in a weekend when it was at the Theatre Royal in Nottingham, me and Lucy even went to see the "Six" exhibition at the Lowry last year.

Last weekend I saw "Six" twice in a day.

Now it might be slightly cheating, because rather than going to the theatre, we went to the cinema, last weekend, cinemas were showing a version they'd filmed at the Vaudeville Theatre with the original queens - Jarneia Richard-Noel, Millie O'Connell, Natalie May Paris, Alexia McIntosh, Aimie Atkinson and Maiya Quansah-Breed.

As soon as I found out they were releasing it at the cinema, I got my friend Laura and my goddaughter Eve to agree to come and see it with me and Lucy as I knew they'd love it. I'm not sure they appreciated my countdown and constant "Six" GIFS I kept sending them in the run up, but they knew what they were letting themselves in for.

On Sunday we all met up and Laura and Eve got to experience "Six" for the first time. I had worried that maybe the genius of the show might get a bit lost, at the cinema, but it didn't at all. At the start there was a little documentary about the show and then the show.

They both loved it!

Lucy and I then decided that we'd go and see it again that night and if I'm being perfectly honest, we'll probably go and see it next weekend too!

What?

It's not on tour near us any time soon and I've no London trips planned where I can go and see it, so this is the closest I can get to it.

So... why do I love it so much?

There are a number of reasons.

Firstly I've always been slightly obsessed with Henry 8th and his wives. My mum was great at bringing history to life, I like to think she was the original "Horrible Histories", she would tell me the gory bits of history and I loved it. Anne Boleyn was always my favourite wife.

Secondly the music is amazing. Most shows have a couple of songs that stick out and you remember, but in "Six" every one is amazing and works as a stand alone, not just as something to move the plot along. There are no fillers!

Thirdly, the show is empowering, I defy anyone to come out of the show and not feel like they can conquer the world. It's about taking back your power and controlling your own narrative.

I made a concious decision a few years ago to not care what people thought of me, I have no interest in being involved in drama.

Now that comes with a slight caveat, I don't mind a bit of a gossip, but I am more Jennifer TIlly in "The Real Housewives of Beverley Hills", than Dorit Kemsley and Sutton Stracke.

Whilst the other housewives fight about whatever it is they're fighting about in that week's episode, I shall sit, listening, eating the lovely food that everyone else is ignoring, whilst wearing a quirky vintage outfit. I mean granted my version of vintage is a Next T-shirt circa 2016 that I've chosen because it still fits and it hasn't got holes in it from the dogs claws, rather than a one-off piece crafted for me by Louis Vuitton, but basically me and Jennifer Tilly are the same.

"Six" is about friendship, it's about forming a sisterly bond, fighting each others corner, cheering each other on, celebrating our strengths and not getting lost in someone else's narrative for us.

So, that's why I love "Six"

And next weekend I will (definitely) probably go and see "Six" again, because why wouldn't I do something that brings me joy and invites me to remember that I'm a Queen and part of the Queendom?
