Katie's Book Club is getting a new home!

As from Tuesday 13th May we will be meeting at PoFfles, 94a High Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. PoFfles is run by my friend Amy and is a fab little coffee shop, which serves the most incredible cakes, cheesecakes and food.

But it's more than that, it's also a haven, it's the sort of place you can go on your own and know you'll instantly be made welcome, there's also someone to have a chat with, or if you want to sit and have a minute to yourself, you can do that too.

Amy also has a Board of Kindness. So when you go in, if you want to you can buy an extra cuppa or food and put it on the board. That way if someone is struggling they can go in and get a warm drink or something to eat without having to pay. I think it's such a lovely idea.

Every Friday, there's the Pam Trinder Chatty Cafe Table too. The name seems familiar right? Every year since mum died as we can no longer buy her a birthday or Mother's Day present, Lucy and I donate some money to a charity that mum would have supported.

Anyone that ever met my mum will know she loved a natter (the apple didn't fall far from the tree) She was also partial to really good cake, so Lucy and I decided to sponsor the Chatty Cafe Table for this and next year, we both know it's something she would have supported.

Every Friday between 9.30 and 11.30, people are welcome to go along and have a chat, Joan is the table host and she's getting a great bunch of regulars who go along. If you're sick of staring at the same 4 walls and chatting to your yucca plant, then go along you'll be made more than welcome.

So.... when Amy asked if I'd like to move Katie's Book Club to PoFfles it was an obvious "yes". When I first set up book club, I wasn't sure what would happen, would anyone turn up? Would it become something serious? Would I hate running it?

The truth is, it's one of the best things I've ever done. Over the last year or so we've been going, some really great friendships have formed. Some of us meet up on other occasions for dinner, drinks or ghost hunts (no really we do) We've been out for dinner together, we've gone to author talks, we swap books with each other and we laugh!

Every month whatever the theme we have a right old giggle, we also have an unofficial competition as to who can buy the prettiest books, we are all a sucker for a pretty book. Jen has bought Steve Cavanagh's "Thirteen", 3 times, I think we all have a copy now, we take photos of it when we see it in shops and send it to her to see if she wants another copy!

I love that it's bought people together, I've made friends with people I've never met before, who have now become some of my favourite people in the world, and I get to be around people who love books as much as I do... I mean I even have a book tattoo!

Thanks to t'other Jen, we now have our own merchandise, and we've all started keeping a reading log, I think that's just to remind us what we've been reading!

Katie's Book Club is open to anyone and everyone. You don't have to commit to every month, just come when you can, all we ask is that you LOVE books and like a bit of a giggle.

So if you're looking to make some new book loving friends, then come along to the next one, which is on Tuesday 13th May, the theme is self-help books, but you can see the list of themes for the rest of the year below.
